Short Essay On Discipline In Student’s Life

In this essay we are going to talk about the Discipline In Student’s Life. Life has many stages and each of us as humans must go through those stages whether we like it or we don’t. Out of the many stages in life, the most interesting stage in life is that where we are students. Although not many people are able to get that opportunity to education, those who experience that stage and go through the same get to witness a lot of things. A lot of changes take place from within. These changes are not just the physiological changes that they go through at during those years as students but also a lot of changes occur mentally.

They become mature with time, they start to handle things in a different way, their childish attitude and playfulness vanishes at a point, and they develop to become responsible people ready for their life ahead. So, what kind of changes do they exactly go through as students? Apart from the physiological factors such as growth, puberty, and developments of the body, they go through a lot which effects them mentally.

The kind of effects that are being mentioned here can be both positive and negative. Some of the positive effects are maturity, responsibility, socialization skills and a lot more. Some of the negative effects include depression, anger, suicidal thoughts, bullying, intimidating behavior etc. Now these effects depend on the kind of environment that they are exposed to as students, the kind of childhood they had and also their relationship with their parents or guardians. Let us go through a detailed analysis and understand this better with the help of some realistic examples. Now, as students, they are exposed to a completely different environment in schools.

The environment and the surrounding people are also entirely different from home. The kind of impact that the student will have depends on both the environment inside his/her home as well as the environment outside his/her home. In other words, to say, it is a simultaneous involvement of the two. If the environment at home is really good and the parents and other family members (if any) are friendly, supportive, and understanding enough, then irrespective of whatever bad happens to the student in school, the student will not be affected to a great extent because his/her family members have got his/her back! No matter how complicated the issues might be, the student will stay strong and confident over the fact that there is family support, and they won’t let him/her fall apart for any reason.

However, if the environment at home is not good enough, let us say parents are fighting every day, there are some sort of issues every day in the house, there is no way the student can stay at peace, and on the contrary, the kind of environment at school is the exact opposite. The student is able to make himself/herself comfortable, he/she is able to confide in her friends, he/she is able to count on them and rely on them for emotional support, then again, the amount of disturbance experienced by the student will not be to a great extent, because he/she at least has someone to openly speak to. So even if one may not be good, the other is always there as a means of support. However, let us take a look at this through an entirely different angle.

The student is neither able to stay peacefully at school nor at home. What will be the solution in such a scenario? Where will the student go? What will he/she do to get through this? Seems complicated right? Well, this is where the student is prone to breaking apart. Yes, they are some students who are strong enough to face such situations and get through, but at the same time, there are others who fail to do so and end up falling apart entirely.

As a result, they become victims of depression, anxiety, they eventually start getting suicidal thoughts and based on how intensely the thought runs through their minds, they at times end up committing suicide, thereby ending their lives for good. Some become prone to drug addiction. In most cases, the reasons are because of the infatuation factor, which most students misunderstand to be love, that pushes them to this extent.

As a result, be it suicide, depression, or even drug addiction, towards the end it is the future of the student that is being ruined. Students should be or rather, let us put it this way, they deserve to lead a happy and peaceful life that is free from worries and problems that are not meant for their age. This can be accomplished and is not something that is impossible. One of the key tools that is effective to do so is practicing discipline among students. Initiating this can resolve numerous disputes among students thereby bringing together to create an effective environment at school, which they will also be able to carry forward and execute at home too. So, let us see some of the most effective ways to get students to practice and execute discipline both, in school as well as at home.

Chronological Order of Daily Routine

Irrespective of whether you are a parent or a teacher, it is always a good initiative to have your child or student follow his/her daily routine in a chronological order. In other words, set an appropriate timetable and make it a point to ensure that your child/student follows it under all circumstances. It doesn’t have to be too much to start with but even if it is something small or simple, it will definitely show results. Be it the child’s/student’s bedtime or wakeup time to having his/her meals on time. Allot time slots for everything that your child/student does every day.

In this manner, students develop discipline, and it is indeed a healthy practice for it not only brings about a good presence of mind when they are at school/college, but also benefits their health in many ways. Their sleep cycle becomes stable, there will be no place for digestion issues since they will be having their meals on time, they won’t have any trouble with regards to becoming obese at a very young age since they will have time allotted to carry out their physical activities during their playtime, they will not become prone to electronic addiction since their timings to use their gadgets will be under control and not exceed the time limit, they will practice self-organization so that they don’t lead a messy lifestyle.

The list will go on and on since the benefits are so many. Once they have a schedule to follow every day, they will hardly have time for any of the negativities like bullying their friends at school, intimidating them, or even creating unnecessary ruckus. Additionally, keeping a chronological order of their daily routine has a direct impact on their grades. Their grades improve and they are able to study well as a result of better concentration. Therefore, practicing chronological order of their routine is a vital initiative that has to be taken by the parents as well as teachers.

Open Mindedness

As parents and teachers, or together as adults, we should be open minded and always be available to our children or students whenever they are in need. We live in a world that is full of complications. Things have worsened to such an extent where students, especially young girls in their teens or even below teens are victims of sexual harassment. The culprits are mostly the male teachers in their schools, the male relatives of her friends, or even someone from her own family!

When such things happen, they are frightened to a very deep extent so much so that it takes a lot of courage to share this with anyone-let alone their parents or their close ones. It is not just the female students who are victims but sometimes even the male students are also victims of sexual harassment. The only way to resolve this as parents/teachers is to take the first steps by broadening our minds and not judge or degrade our children/students, because it is not their fault. They are in no way responsible for such things happening to them. Firstly, when they approach you regarding this issue, never neglect it no matter how busy you may be, learn to adjust your priorities as per the problem and the situation.

Take the time off to sit and talk to them and address the issues at the earliest possible. Make them feel comfortable and give them the trust and hope that you have their backs no matter what. Teach them the differences between good touch and bad touch and always ask them to immediately come and report in case of any such issues. It is not just the harassment issues, but there are even more issues that can traumatize students such as bullying, infatuation issues, insulting them in front of everyone, degrading them, not assisting them in studies etc.

If you expect children to follow discipline, then being strict or intimidating is not the solution at all. Being open minded is a very crucial factor and as parents/teachers, you must set practical examples to demonstrate everything so that they understand and follow it out of their will and not out of fear.

Explain the Aftereffects

Set practical examples of scenarios and give them valid reasons to why they should/ should not follow certain things. Explain the dos and don’ts well in detail. Explain the pros and cons of a certain situation. After the explanation, give them the chance to choose what is right and what is wrong and in case they end up making the wrong decision, always correct them without judging and show them the right path!

Appreciation and Reward

Bring in an initiative to always reward the good things that children/students do. It is obvious that anyone would be happy to receive a reward for something good that they have done. Rewards and appreciations are one of the most effective ways to motivate your student/children as they will happily follow discipline in the hope of getting a reward!
