It is almost impossible to find an accurate definition of friendship. Everyone has their own understanding of friendship, own definition of friendship. Short Essay on friendship
Friendship is the purest form and most peaceful form of relationship between two individuals. A friend is one whom a person can trust blindly and they do not have to fake themselves in front of them. It is very essential to have friends. We generally act differently in front of our partners, family members and friends. Mostly we are ourselves in front of our friends, if we are not able to get completely honest with our friends then somewhere something is wrong in that friendship. Being who we are is the actual want of a real friendship. We go on whole life wearing masks anyway.

They say a friend in need is a friend in deed. This quote is the truest explanation of what friendship should be like. The way friends understand us, no one can relate that way. That is maybe we because we get to choose our friends and our friends are generally the type of personalities we are. Our friends understanding us better than anyone else can also be because of the age similarity. We tend to make friends of our age always. By the time our family or relative starts to understand our problems, our problems get even clumsier. So we need friends. And so we should always be there when they need us. Best thing about friends is that unlike family members we are not born with them, we get a chance to choose friends. That is why friendship is called a true friendship.
A friend is very significant for our personal growth too. Humans are social beings. Therefore, humans need humans. If we do not get ourselves indulged in friendship then we won’t be able to evolve to our fullest potential. Friends are important for mental support too. One can easily feel lonely in this planet if he does not have friends. And that is the reason why we see people suffering from mental illness such as depression when they fail to make friends.
So we are more or less, dependent upon our friends directly or indirectly. With the right friends, we can stay happy with minimal needs. But with a wrong friend, we will stay unhappy even when life is being perfect with us. Friends teach us the lessons and make us learn how to deal with life, no books can teach us that so friendship is a crucial part of everyone’s life. Friends are one of the best assets we have in our life.

How To Choose?
Not every friend is right for us. Good friendship can change lives. Good friends can change the whole way we used look at things before meeting them. A wrong friend can almost destroy our life. Hence, a friend can impart both negativity and positivity in our lives. It is our role to pick the right ones. APJ Abdul kalam once said,” one best book is equal to hundred friends but one good friend is equal to a library” – very rightly said. A good influence is required for a healthy life. But it is not only about the influence but also the quality of friendship. Getting even one true friend is a god’s gift.
We often come across so called friends who are never there when we need them, even there are friends who betray us when we are in tough spot. Sometimes, we even meet people who are wonderful at heart but they are into negative habits such drinking, smoking etc. such kind of people, no matter how they support you and always wish the best for you cannot be really considered as friends because somewhere their influence is unhealthy for your life. Now the question arises that who is a true friend and who is not. Good friends will always push us to work harder in life and take the right decisions. On the other hand, bad friends do not really care about us and that can lead us to the wrong paths
True Friendship
Variety is everywhere, so there is variety in friendship. We connect with many people throughout the life but only the closest ones become our friends. We may maintain a large circle of friends throughout our school life and college life but deep down we know that we can count on only few people when we are in trouble. Those are our true friends. True friends will make you feel like family with whom you do not have any blood relation. Even there are many people in the whole world who do not have families but they have friends who are no lesser than family. True friends will make you feel accepted and reassured.
You do not have to meet them every day or talk to them every day; they will understand your time and your needs. True friends will be happy for your happiness, such friends can even take a bullet for you. We have lost the meaning of true friendship because of the encounters. Such so called friends only will remember you when they need you and then backstab you when their work is done.
We often come across people who want to be your friend just because of their own benefits. They are there when you are rich and wealthy and suddenly they are gone when they do not see their benefits.
Friendship Examples From History
We have always learnt from history. Examples of friendship are there in the pages of history too. We have read some of greatest epics and stories on friendship in history which have made us understand the value of true friendship. One of such stories is the story of Lord Shri Krishna and Sudama’s friendship. The stories goes back to when Krishna and Sudama were childhood friends, they would do everything together, were best of friends but when Krinsha grew up, he became the king but grown up Sudama was very poor. Sudama was embarrassed to meet Krishna as he was very rich but when they reunited Krishna treated him with no economic barriers. This teaches us the true characteristics of friendship.
There is another example from the greatest epic of the country- Mahabharata. That is friendship of Karna and Duryodhana. Karna kept on fighting for the war even when he got to know that the opponents, Pandavas, were his brothers. He even sacrificed his life in the name of friendship. This is the best example of friendship.
We have all heard about the Bhagvat Gita. Bhagvat Gita was indirectly the example of friendship between Lord Krishna and Arjuna. It is an example of how good influence of a friend can make you learn so many things. There are numerous other examples in the books of history from where we can learn what friendship really is.

Life Without Friends
It is almost impossible for us to imagine life without friends. But still let us take a moment and imagine this. We will spend days after days without really sharing our feelings to anyone. We will start feeling lonely almost every time. Gradually, we will lose our emotions and become robots. We won’t have in the need of crisis. We won’t get even shoulders to cry on. We won’t even have someone to celebrate our happiness and victories with. We will almost turn into emotionless creatures. Such life is unimaginable. That is why we should be thankful to our friends and we should never be the one who backstabs others. Friends should be treated as treasures that we have.
Conclusion
No matter if you agree or agree, friends play a very vital role in our lives. Infact, it is very essential to have friend. However, we need to understand that we have to be very wise when it comes to picking up our friends because our friends’ can either make us better human beings or can destroy us. Nonetheless, we cannot spend our life without friends. We also need to understand the fact that we cannot get good friends as a gift from heaven. We need to play our parts too. We have to be a good friend first.
