In this essay we are going to talk about the Memories. Human beings are a library of memories. From their experiences to emotions everything is stored in their minds. Some stay fresh even after years and some stay in the depths of their minds.
From the moment a person is born, they start gaining new experiences making them a memory to last in their minds. Though over the years they may not be able to unlock those experiences they surely are present somewhere.
Short Essay on memories
Though some memories are easily forgettable, there are some other memories that are basically not that easy to forget. It may be due to some grave impact that the particular experience had on us.No matter what kind of memories we hold, they all seem to have some importance in our lives. Why is it so important? Let’s look into it-
Why are memories so important?
Memories don’t have a particular feel to them. They can be happy, sad or even both. But what makes them so special to humans? Let’s see some of the points that state why we need to have memories-
Experience to revisit
When you reminisce about a memory, you tend to revisit the same experience that particular memory gave you. You not only remember the incident but you also feel all the emotions you felt then. It feels as if you are reliving the moment. All the scenes pass by your view.
If we didn’t have any memory then we probably would never be able to relive the experiences and remember them! We may lose all the good and bad times we spent in life which could be quite sad.

Stories to tell people
You might always hear your grandparents and parents saying all the embarrassing things you have done in your childhood. But how do they remember it so well and you don’t? Well, it might be probably because you were still too small to understand or remember something. Your elders, however, have these precious memories stored in them which they might probably never forget!
If they didn’t have a memory of these instances you would probably never know how you were in your childhood. Through their stories, you seem to have a peek at your childhood.
Learn and grow
Humans evolve every day. They learn from mistakes and focus on what to do, but ever wondered where this ‘learn and grow’ technique comes from?
It’s the memories! When you experience anything you seem to involuntarily memorise your actions. Hence, even if you fail, your memory seems to picture what you went through and where you went wrong. This could give one a clear picture of where to focus on and how to grow and develop better.
Moments to tell your younger generation
In human life, the person goes through phases. From childhood to old age, every phase has its own beauty and journey. This journey takes a beautiful form of memory that one can orally tell their younger generation.
The younger generation can learn from this journey and understand the process of life one has to face further.
Probably, that’s why older people are often treated as someone wiser and experienced. They have seen those hardships and phases of life which we will not see or probably will face in future. Hence, if memory didn’t play a role here, we would have never gotten such amazing tales!
Decipher your actions from the past
When you have a memory of any incident, you can review it in your mind. You can keep on going through the memory and judge your actions. You can analyse your way of approaching any issue and think about what alternate action would have given you a better outcome.
Of course, you may not remember everything in detail but still, you can still get a correct glimpse of the incident. This gives better access for a person to see through what to avoid in future and think about how to correct one’s mistakes.
Remembering the lost ones
No human is immortal. Everyone has to leave the world one day. But how would your close ones be with you even in their absence? It is through their memories.
Even though the person may no longer be in the world, the memories they hold with you are precious and unforgettable. It will keep them alive and immortal in your hearts.

Helps in remembering things
Having a good memory can be quite beneficial. It increases one’s focus span and brainpower. They can store and remember many things in their minds.
History
Ancient knowledge has provided a lot to humans. We know what ancestors were like and what did they do. But some incidents can only be tales that have no other proof than the elders’ voice of memories.
There are many incidents that have been noted down in history, but hearing the tale from a person who was present during the incident gives us an imaginable insight into the incident. We can connect with the person and their emotions at that time. We realise the situation of the person at that time which an article of how the incident happened may not give us.
For example, we might have read about freedom struggles and freedom fighters in our history books but listening to it from the mouths of these fighters is a blessing! It is their memories of incidents that make us relate to them to such an extent that no book can take its place making the same content more interesting.
Adds colours to our life
When a human is born, its life is like a blank canvas. This canvas is filled with the colours of childhood, adolescence, youth and old age, making it a beautiful painting. These colours of experiences are nothing but memories that always remain somewhere locked in our minds.
Now imagine a situation where people don’t keep memories. Their life will remain like a blank canvas throughout their life. There will never be a colour of happiness or sadness on it. There will be no learning, no betterment and no outcome. Just a simple blank life!

Autobiography
Do you know what is the most unique thing about an autobiography? Well, it is a real-life story of a real-life person. Autobiography, in basic terms, is a pile of memories engraved in a book. It is a tale of a person’s past experience, his learning, his journey and his destination.
Though every autobiography may have a completely different story to speak about. They may also have very different situations or problems, but what lies the same in all of these is that these come from their memories. They are neither something made up nor something factual. There is nothing accurate or inaccurate here but just a showcase of one’s life in writing.
What if the world one day becomes memoryless?
Memories play such a dear role in everyone’s life. Looking at this, I can’t help but wonder what would the world be like if there were no memories? But when I imagine the situation of this answer, I pray for such a time to never come!
Living without any memories would be like living without any existence. You don’t know where you come from. You can’t relate to people who went through severe phases of their lives and all of this would be because they won’t have any memory of how things went.
There would be no history depicting the struggles of people and their views. There would be no reminiscence of your close ones. There would be no one to tell you about your childhood and there would be no one to whom you can talk about your experience. All of this is because you don’t have any storage of information regarding your experience.
All in all the world would probably move at a constant blank pace rather than becoming better or developing themselves in some sense.
Conclusion
Our minds are boxes of data and information. It stores certain data as facts or it might create some in the form of imagination or dreams. However, there is one more thing that these minds store and that is memories of our past. Our everyday experience lives as a memory of our mind. Some might be bad, some might be good. Some might make you happy and some might make you sad. Some are so precious that you would want to cherish the experience throughout your life whereas some are so hurtful that you might just want to erase them away!
No matter what emotions they bring you, they always remain special to you. Even their pain has its own beauty.
Living a life without any memory can be quite bland. There are no tales to speak of and no moments to go through. Without any memory, there might be no other way for a person to hold on to the treasures of experience.
Memories are like a blessing that humankind has. They can speak about it, write about it. They can remember people from it. Hence, cherish every moment of your life as a beautiful memory!
