Short Essay On My Home

In this essay we are going to talk about My Home. Home is a term that is used to describe something that brings about a sense of comfort. People have a lot of definitions to describe a home. It does not necessarily have to be the building which we call home because the logic here is quite simple; if it does not give the comfort and the care, then it is definitely not a home. In general terms, a home is a place where all our loved ones are living together.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a joint family consisting of a mother, father, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, cousins, and grandparents but it can also be a nuclear family consisting of just three or four members, i.e., a mother, father, and children. In fact, in some cases, it is also not necessary to have kids to call it a family, a couple living together can also form a home.

Short Essay On My Home

Despite the number of people living together under one roof, what really matters is that one should have that sense of belonging, the sense of being loved, being supported, and being comforted, because towards the end, what a home comprises of all these factors. Sometimes, it doesn’t necessarily have to be family members living together, because there are some people who live with their friends under one roof, yet that is where they feel like at home.

This may seem a little controversial and it is something that can be debated on but if looked into through the depths, then what results towards the end is that everyone has a unique perception and opinion about a home. Let us analyze all of these into different examples for a better understanding. Let us begin with the joint family. You are blessed with an amazing and loving joint family. Suppose you are working and after a long day, you are on your way back home tired and frustrated from all the work you were bombarded with throughout the day. Once you get back home, you are welcomed by your family.

One member helps you to relax while the other is preparing some good food for you to eat and freshen up. So, in this case, you are comforted, you get a welcoming vibe when you are back from work. It is this sense of affection that keeps bringing you back and it is because of those welcoming vibes that you can smile despite being tired and frustrated from work. Now let us take a look at this scenario through a different angle. For instance, you have your job, or you are studying abroad, which means that you will be away from home for a certain period of time; it could be for 6 months, a year or even more than a year, based on how you get your vacation to travel back home.

So, you have finally got your vacation after the long wait and all set to go back home, to meet your loved ones who are eagerly awaiting your arrival. Once you arrive, the entire duration of your vacation feels so meaningful because of the love and affection that your family showers on you. Again, in this situation, you are welcomed by your family, and you get a feeling that the patience you bore throughout your working period to go on your vacation finally made sense! Now let us look at another scenario.

In this case, it is a nuclear family consisting of just the couple and kids. Assuming that both parents are working, their kids await their arrival at home after they have called it a day at school. Through the perspective of parents, although they may be tired from work, they might have a lot of tensions running through their mind, they still wouldn’t vent it out.

The reason is that all the tensions vanish into thin air on just seeing those cute and innocent smiles of their kids and the mischiefs that they do at home. So, in this case, their happiness lies in seeing their kids smile and play around, and that clears out their stress and reenergizes them altogether. Looking at this through an entirely different perspective, let us say, for instance, that it is only the couple living together. In this case, the scenario could be either way; it could be that both are working or only one of them goes to work. So, towards the end of the day, even if they have one person to welcome them, ask them about their day, care for them and comfort them, it automatically becomes a home. The same terminology applies to a set of friends living together.

Although these things and these small moments of a boom of emotions may not really seem to be a big deal, it matters to a great extent. Ask those who do not have families at all, ask those who live their lives in utter loneliness. You will realize how badly they yearn to have a family, irrespective of being a joint family, a nuclear family or even just a set of close friends! If it still doesn’t seem credible enough, then try to isolate yourself in a flat, bungalow, villa, hut or even a studio apartment. With time, you will realize how frustrating it can be to live alone in a building all by yourself, surrounded by those four walls.

Now having looked at the various scenarios and the various perspectives, have you ever felt that these vibes that homes once used to give are slowly diminishing with time? There are various reasons to this like technology, self-isolation, materialistic obsessions, intolerance, and a lot more. However, if we take a little effort and give a slight push, things can be improved, and home can be called home again! So, let us have a look at some of the healthy practices that can be initiated to improve the environment in our homes.

Avoid over usage of technology

Although technology is an effective tool that has eased the lives of many, a lot of people often tend to forget the fact that it is a double-edged sword. Today, technology, despite it’s numerous advantages, is one of the key reasons to why families are splitting apart and there is no bond or connection in between the members. In fact, even those living under the same roof do not interact with the people around them; the reason is simple: they are too busy and glued to the digital world, making virtual interactions. For those who have kids at home, have you ever wondered why they don’t really show much interest in going out or even just having a word with the people surrounding them?

The answer is over usage of electronic gadgets. The virtual world has mesmerized people to such an extent that people have learnt to live in isolation, with the aid of virtualization. So, what is the solution? Well, try to keep track of the amount of time that you spend on those gadgets and set small goals for a start which you can implement, as a result of which you will be able to reduce and cut down on the hours you spend on the usage of gadgets. Although this may not completely help, it can serve as one of the factors to the initiative of making your places an ideal home to live in.

Take the effort from your end

One of the biggest mistakes that people often end up doing is expecting others to come and solve their problems and work on their happiness for them. This is not how it works; you are responsible for your problems, and you are responsible for your happiness. Of course, your loved ones and people who make you feel good can be a factor or one of the reasons to your happiness but not the purpose altogether. Let us understand this better with an example. You are in a place where you are surrounded by people, and they are cracking jokes. One of the jokes turns out to be so hilarious that everyone bursts into laughter. However, that immediate reaction is not a reflex, the people who are laughing are laughing out of their choice and not under the obligation of others.

So, the same applies to you as well, although you find it funny, the choice of whether you want to laugh or even smile or just remain unaffected is completely yours. If you are happy, try to share it and spread it to people around you instead of abiding by the digital means by posting memes or stories on social media platforms. Laughter is contagious and if spread the right way, it can bring about smiles on a lot of faces without any reason! So even if you find yourself in an environment where you are surrounded by sadness and negativity, take the effort from your end to change it because every cloud has a silver lining. Be the change you wish to be and make your homes a happy place to live in!

Ego Kills

Ego is a very dangerous killer. It can spoil and ruin even the best of relationships, be it family or friends. No relationship can ever last where there is ego. There is nothing wrong in compromising or giving in. It is no crime to do so either! Of course, yes, self-respect is also important but those who are wise enough will understand and will be able to differentiate between ego and self-respect. It doesn’t mean that those who avoid unnecessary arguments are doing it out of their ego, it is just that they are concerned about their self-respect. Ego is one of the main reasons why homes don’t retain their ideal characteristics. So let go of the ego factor to retain the peace and happiness in your homes!

Remember, home is not just based on walls of bricks and cement, it is the people and the intensity of how well they are able to get along with each other that matters and determines if the place one lives in is an ideal home or not!
