Short Essay On Our Country

In this essay we are going to talk about the Our Country. “India is my country. All Indians are my brothers and sisters.” I still remember reciting these sentences on my school premises. The lyrics of the national anthem are still fresh in my mind. I still find myself humming patriotic songs and reminiscing “shaheeds” on national days. India is a country full of vivid people and cultures. Residing in southern Asia, India is by far the seventh-largest country by area. Imbibing various ideologies and beliefs within it, the tri-coloured country is a land rich in stories. Be it the freedom struggle or mythological beliefs, India never fails to intrigue a person.

Short Essay on Our country

But like every other country, our country holds issues too. Though India is at its fast pace towards development, there are still places that suffer. Below are a few points that make me feel proud as an Indian and a few points which I would wish to change about the country.

Things that make me proud of being an Indian.

The largest democracy in the world

It makes me proud to say that my country holds the largest democracy in the world. I have the right to speak freely and voice out my opinions. The framework of our Constitution allows us to be treated equally regardless of caste, colour or gender. It took months for our leaders to come up with the constitution but it was all worth it. India holds one of the most prestigious constitutions with an accurate amount of rules and regulations befitting for all the people living here, making it the largest democracy in the world. Though there are amendments and changes taking place which is necessary with the changing time.

Unity in diversity

The thing which fascinates me and most of the world about India is its diversity. As mentioned earlier, India is a land of unique culture and traditions. We have a range of festivals celebrated gleefully all over the country. We have people practising different religions but still come together as Indians. Despite having different practices and ideologies, we as Indians stand to work together for our country.

Languages

India possesses a wide range of linguistic skills. Don’t be surprised if you come across people who can speak multiple languages. It is noted that most Indians can speak more than one language. We still have different regional languages which have their roots in the country since ancient times. English and Hindi are languages that are spoken all over India. In fact, despite being a foreign language, English is the most widely spoken language in the country. India also imbibed one of the oldest languages in the world. Some of these languages are still used for writing and speaking. Tamil and Telugu are two examples of such languages.

The tourist places

It won’t be wrong to say that India has one of the most exciting places to visit. Over the years, these places have successfully attracted millions of tourists into the country. India’s geographical location and vast areas allow it to host different weathers and regions. The country possesses hot regions like Rajasthan or cold regions like Kashmir. Not just that, India is one of those few countries, which experience all the seasons, from summer, winter to rainy. Apart from these, India’s rich history leaves behind various forts, cultures, monuments and temples to admire. Be it the mausoleum of love, Taj Mahal or the French capital of the country, Pondicherry, India has many such wonders to amaze ourselves with.

Essay On Our Country

The classic movies

India has one of the largest film making industries. The movies don’t just stick to the Hindi language which is popularly known as Bollywood, but traverse through different languages, be it Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu or any other language. Movies have been deeply admired in our country. Some movies are made for the masses and entertainment purposes while some hold the most touching plot. Over the years, movies are still successfully made and winning people’s hearts!

The farmers

India possesses lands that are perfect for agricultural purposes. It may be because of the contrast in the seasons and atmospheric conditions that the country possesses. It is a pride to see our farmers working day and night to produce the grains that feed the whole country! Over the years, there have been several programs and bills passed in favour of farmers and their families.

The soldiers

In India, farmers and soldiers are seen as the backbone of the country. One feeds us and another protects us. Indians hold an admirable passion for the country. Hence, respect for soldiers comes automatically. Our country possesses one of the top armed forces in the world. Soldiers are seen with an enormous amount of respect and why not? After all, they are awake day and night, guarding our borders so that we can sleep peacefully.

 The arts and talents

Looking for talents? India has a bunch of them! There are so many cultures that imbibe different arts and talent. There are various folk dances, classical dances, classical music, and arts seen in the country. Since ancient times, India has been keenly interested in these, as a result, they are still flourishing in the country.

The food!!

India and no spices? Impossible! Food is probably one of the best things that this country possesses. The reason for this is the variety and range of dishes it has. From Kolkata sweets to south Indian dosa. Every place has its own speciality to showcase. Our foods are rich in spices and flavours. The best part, however, about our country’s cuisine is that you can’t categorise it. Every dish has its own flavour and uniqueness.

Things I wish I could change in India

Several things make me proud of being an Indian. However, just like every other country, this one too is not perfect. India still has many things it is lacking. There are many things that we are changing and hopefully will be changing one day. For now, let’s look into some of the things that I would like to change in the country.

Gender disparity

Even though our Constitution sees and treats each of us as equal, there are still some places where women are kept behind. It is much more obvious in work sectors where women, despite working the same as any other men, are paid less than them. Not just women, even minorities, for example, those who belong to lgbtq+ community are often harshly treated by society and people.

The careless attitude

One thing that every Indian may agree to possess is the ‘it’s fine, chalega’ attitude. This mindset doesn’t let them stand up for something wrong and settle at something way less.

Some people are also so much into ‘jugaad’ that they don’t care what way they are taking up as long as their work is done!

The punctuality

There is a world-famous perception about Indians. The perception is ‘Indians are always late’. To some extent, it is true. There is a heavy need to make people aware of the importance of time and punctuality. We can do this by educating and training our younger generation to be on time. Not just that, we, ourselves have to focus on becoming an ideal person who showcases and follows punctuality.

Doing things in an orderly manner

One thing that not just me but probably the whole world admires about countries like Japan is their systematic way of doing things. They always move in an orderly way. For example, Standing in lines and queuing for trains and buses. These small gestures imbibe a sense of discipline in a person. If India adopts this, it would be much easier and convenient to move in trains and buses.

Youth not into politics

Nowadays, there are very few young people who want to become national leaders. There are two major reasons for it. One, they are interested but are not given the chance as the old leaders still believe in sitting on the positions. Two, they simply find politics, a dirty business. If we can convert this mentality and provide chances for more and more young leaders to come up. India may get channelized in a better direction.

Scams in the name of dharma

India is a religious country. People strongly hold faith in their gods and spirituality. However, this blind belief may lead to some scammers using these innocent people for their own profit. They instil the fear of God in their minds and extract riches and money from them. This issue has been existing for a long time and I hope it changes one day.

Traffic

When you move to big Indian cities like Mumbai, the most frustrating thing about travelling there is the traffic which takes hours to clear up. The country has to put up stricter traffic rules and make sure they are followed.

Conclusion

India, a country with a beauty of its own. From deserts to rainforests, there is everything you can experience in the country. We follow different traditions and religions but hold patriotic hearts. With a rich history and landscape, our country is one of a kind. Places like the Taj Mahal and red fort have left people in awe and the art and talents have entertained people over the years. However, there are still many issues that the country has to overcome. It will happen when one becomes aware of their duty as a citizen and sincerely follows it! Because, at the end of the day, we proudly say, India is my country, India is our country!
