Short Essay on sister

Here are some of the reasons why having a sister is a boon as well as bane!

They are annoying

The first word that comes to everyone’s mind when they talk about their sister is annoying. However, the ‘annoying’ here is not some serious type of annoying. It’s a friendly type of annoying. How is it friendly?

Well, the answer is even though people may find their sisters annoying they will be the very people who will miss it most if they aren’t present. It’s more like a teasing term to support playful banters and create more memories.

Fight with you all the time

If you have a sister then I am sure you must have a scenario or memory in your mind where you are literally on each other’s throats. Playful fighting is like a very common thing if you have a sister. Elder or younger, it doesn’t matter! Some even fight every hour. But even after shouting at each other, they are the ones who loves you wholeheartedly at the end. That’s why even after having the biggest showdown, at the end of the day they come together as if nothing ever happened!!

Support you during hard times

Whenever I am stressed I call my sister. Sibling support is probably the biggest support one can have. If I am in trouble and it is something which I can’t share with other people, then sharing it with your sister is the best option. However, it only applies when they are understanding enough. A supportive sister is like a blessing that one should treasure. The reason why they can understand you is probably that you both have been brought up in a similar environment, hence, it becomes quite easy for them to understand the roots of where you come from.

Secret?

When it comes to sharing secrets with sisters. There are two categories.

One category has sisters with whom you can share all your secrets without any worry and the second category where you can’t even dream of sharing your secrets with them at any cost.

Some sisters are extremely understanding so there is a guarantee that they will not break your trust. On the other side, some sisters may not really be that loyal to your secrets and tell them to everyone. The latter category is not that well appreciated.

Hence, if your sister is someone who can keep your deepest secrets then do consider yourself quite lucky!

Feeling of protection

When you have a sister, you ultimately evoke a sense of protection over them. Even though you might never admit it to them, you want them to be protected from all the dangers of the world. Even if they are older or younger, you wouldn’t want any harm on them!

Never admitting love

Even though two siblings may never admit it but the love they hold for each other is limitless. The bond they hold with each other doesn’t let them express their love verbally but through actions.

The care they hold

The best part about a sibling relationship is the care that they hold for each other. Their actions express their care loudly.

Save you from scoldings

Do you think it’s only the mother who saves you every time from scolding? Then you are wrong. At times siblings can take that position too. This quality is often seen in older sisters.

Partners in crime

It won’t be wrong to say that my sister and I are partners in crime. In our childhood, we often roamed after causing all the troubles, ultimately getting scolded together. There was an adventure in that fun which also made our bond stronger.

In sisterhood, sharing is actually caring. A sister often finds herself fighting over or sharing things with her sister. It could be clothes or even accessories. Don’t have matching earrings to wear for a party? No worries! Take it from your sister!!

Roles of a sister

In one’s life, a sister may play different roles. Let’s look into some of them-

Sister as a mother

If you have an older sister then maybe you can consider her as your next mother. In India, this type of bond is usually seen when there is a big age gap between two siblings or the family is poor. When both mother and father have to earn for the family, it is always the eldest daughter of the family who takes care of the younger brothers and sisters. It can at times, also be seen in other family backgrounds too where a sister takes care of her siblings just like a mother.

Sister as daughter

Parents are usually protective over kids. But it is not just parents who can be like that. At times, a sibling can be protective of their sister too. This protectiveness is more commonly seen in an older brother and younger sister relationship. In India, we also celebrate a festival called ‘Rakshabandhan’ where a sister ties a band of rakhi to her brother in the hope that he will always be her shield and protect her.

Sister as a teacher

A sister can be a great teacher. Not just academically, but also in life. If you have an understanding relationship with your sister then maybe she can teach you great life lessons. If you are an older sibling, then she can teach you caring and loving but if you are younger she can give her care and love to you along with advice like what to do and what not to do!

Sister as a best friend

When you have a sister with whom you can share everything, she ultimately becomes your best friend. The bond which the two of you hold is very strong and unbreakable. You would want to share your days and pains with her. You can even ask for her advice and support in certain things. You can talk for hours and hours. You can share surprises and even relate to each other. There is no doubt of genuinity as the relationship is built on reality and you don’t have to fake or show yourself worthy of their love. They have known you since small and will be with you till the end. No one can change the place of a sister from your heart.

Sister as enemy

This relationship may not be exactly what two enemies will be like. It would be more like a playful banter. Though if you are the only child in the house and suddenly your sister arrives in the family, you may feel a bit left out, but, that jealousy heals with time and love grows. All you have to make sure is that don’t let that jealousy get the best of you and try to mingle with them.

There are many siblings who fight on an everyday basis however, that is only their way of expressing and enjoying the bond because when separated, they are the only ones who miss it the most.

Conclusion

When you have a sister, you share a very unique bond with them. The bond is lovely and amazing on its own. It is the relationship that never breaks as it is something you both have gotten as a gift of being born from the same parents.

Every sister-sister or sister-brother relationship is different but the amount of love might be the same.

They may or may not tell you how much you mean to them but they may showcase through their actions.

Having a sister brings a sense of protectiveness to you. Your deep talks and playful banters are worth living for! As a sibling, we always have to keep our bond strong and deep because having a sister is definitely annoying but a blessing too!

About my sister

Personally, I do feel that in my family, I relate to my sister the most. We do fight like cats and dogs at times but at the end of the day all of those are forgotten and we find ourselves sleeping next to each other. We never said sorry after a fight, it is something unspoken between us, because even though we don’t say it verbally, we do realize how sorry we are.

We have laughed together in happy times and cried together in sad times. Years have passed but our bond only became stronger.

Even in our busy schedules we somehow manage to take off some time and share all the things that happened with each other.

Over the years we have built a sort of trust in each other. This trust makes us share our secrets without worrying about them judging us.
