Of course, yes having a dream home built as one of the goals on the list is a very good idea indeed but the question that arises here is how many of us are ready to put in the efforts no matter what is takes to accomplish this? It is easy to dream of doing something but not many people are aware of the fact that is takes a lot of effort and requires dedication of time along with the commitment.

Now let us analyze the two different scenarios between having our own house to live in and living in a house where we pay rent on a regular basis. Let us put it into two different examples for a better understanding, starting with the life in a rental house. So, you are working, and you have to live in a house, or rather, let us say an apartment or a flat. You have to pay a certain amount as rent on a monthly or weekly basis or sometimes even once in every two or three months, depending on the rental scheme of the apartment in which you are living in.

There are again two different scenarios when living in an apartment, flat or even a villa for rent Now, if you are lucky enough, you might have a few exceptions especially in situations where you may not be able to pay the rent for that particular week or month due to some financial crisis, or at times, you may not even be disturbed by any other new tenants who are looking for a house to move in but wish to have a tour of the house.

Now, this may not be the case in apartments which are being run by huge corporate companies or housing communities, however, if it is a one-on-one deal between the tenant and the owner, then that is where there are chances of complications that might come about.

Let us say, for instance, you delayed by a week or so in paying the rent. So, either of the consequences are possible; one, either the owner comes and stands at the door, demanding to pay the rent there and then, two, the owner might disturb you with continuous phone calls, even during the odd hours i.e., in the middle of the night when you are asleep or even during your work hours where you might be in a meeting or in the middle of something, three, the owner might create a ruckus by sending in people to humiliate you, or the owner himself/herself might come in person to humiliate you, which can be very disturbing.

The possibilities apart, if you are lucky enough, you might have a house owner who is understanding and is considerate enough to give you exceptions, but only to a certain limit. After all, even their patience has limits for they are ordinary human beings just like all of us. The only factor that can be seen as advantageous with regards to living in an apartment or a flat or villa on rent is that you do not have to pay tax, since you do not own the property, and when time comes, you are not burdened with the tension of disposing off the property, since it is the owner’s dispute to be solved and not the tenants. This was a one-on-one scenario where the dealings are between the tenant and the house owner, and no one else is involved or no one else gets to come in between.

Now, let us take a look at the same rental housing scenario under a different system. For rental apartments which are owned by housing companies or corporate companies, the system works in an entirely different manner. Since these are operated by well-trained professionals, things work in a very professional and systematic manner. They have a set of rules to be followed with regards to payment of rent, which includes the mode of payment, how often is the rent supposed to be paid (weekly, monthly, or once in every two or three months etc.), and what kind of penalties will the tenants be liable to if they are not able or they fail to pay the rent before the deadline.

In most cases, tenants are charged with an additional amount as a fine or a penalty charge for the delay in paying the rent, i.e., if they fail to pay the rent for a particular week, or month, they are charged with a penalty so that they pay it along with the original rent amount next time. It is obvious that no one would want to spend extra money for unnecessary purposes, and that too money that is earned through lot of hard work and effort is definitely something that no one would want to lose in the form of paying a penalty or something. So, either way, living in an apartment, flat or villa on rent is not so advantageous to people since there are a lot of issues and complications that can come about especially when our rent payments are not regular.

The only differential factor is that the consequences and penalties are handled differently by owners who have a one-on-one dealing with their tenants and housing companies or communities that runs on an entirely systematic basis. Now, let us have a look at the second most scenario of living in a rent-free house, i.e., our dream house. Here the situation is completely different. The bills and expenses like maintenance, electricity, water etc., cannot be prevented in both rental as well as non-rental houses but what makes non-rental houses more advantageous compared to rental houses is the term itself- yes NON-RENTAL! This means that there is no need to pay rent on a monthly, weekly or any other basis.

The only expenses that you will incur are your bills related to the maintenance, electricity, water, and other charges if applicable. Otherwise, it is your own place! You can be yourself; you are not under any sort of obligation to be under restrictions or follow a certain set of rules and regulations.

You can pretty much do whatever you wish to do and there is no one who has any rights to question you over anything. You get to decide everything in your own house; you have full freedom to decide the color of your walls, the type of furniture you would like to have, the way it is supposed to be arranged, the style of your kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, patio, and the list goes on and on! So, if analyzed, the only factor that seems to be a drawback, to some extent, if not ideally, is the concern of disposing it off when the need comes or selling it off when required.

Otherwise, living in our own house is far better than having to live on rent. In fact, studies have shown that our savings increase to a reasonable extent when we have our own house compared to a house on rent. The savings can be utilized on a lot of other things. So, having looked at the difference between living in a rental home and our own homes, let us now have a detailed look at some of the ideal factors to be considered when constructing our dream home.
