So, these are other languages that come secondary in their usage around the globe succeeding the English language. So, despite the occurrence of speech in so many languages across the globe, why is it that English is chosen as a widely spoken language as well as an official language all over the world? The answer is simple; it is universal. If this is to be connected with aspects dating back to the historic times, then it can be put in simple words stating that the influence of the British and their rule that was imposed on a lot of countries across the globe was the reason why the English language was able to spread globally. It is not just the colonization of the British but also through overseas trade that used to happen during those times.

So, this can be seen as one of the first steps towards the spread of the language globally. It kept undergoing changes and a lot of new words, accents, phrases as well as quotes were evolved. The standards that were followed during the time it evolved are entirely different from the standards being followed today. For example, there are a lot of new words that have evolved over the years, and also new styles of saying certain phrases have come up! The number of words that the dictionary of today holds is an approximate 470,000! So, it is evident that new words are being found and new styles to phrases are being adhered to by people of today.
